SynopsisWhen she was 19 years old, a student in Tokyo, Hito Steyerl had her photo taken as a bondage model. "It all came back to me when I saw the first pictures coming out of Guantanamo", she says. "You could argue we are dealing here with a kind of political bondage of untold dimensions". Lovely Andrea is the film-maker's search for a photo and the essence of bondage.
Born 1966 in Munich, HITO STEYERL studied film from 1987 to 1990 in Tokyo with Imamura Shohei and Hara Kazuo. She subsequently worked as an assistant director for Wim Wenders, studied documentary film at the "University of TV and Film" in Munich and took a PhD at the "Academy of Fine Arts Vienna". After lectureships and guest professorships in Berlin, Vienna, Munich and Hanover, she was appointed senior lecturer of cultural studies und postcolonial studies at "Goldsmiths College University of London". She is currently guest professor for experimental film and video design at the "Berlin University of the Arts".
