My Own 1000 Square Meters

The Netherlands 2007, Documentary, 13' | Director, Realization Atousa Bandeh Ghiasabadi

After living in the Netherlands for seventeen years, an Iranian woman decides to go back to Iran with the dream of buying a plot of land for herself and calling it home. Her journey to find the right spot coincides with a visit to the United Nations by the new Iranian president. Slowly but surely, she becomes confronted with the fact that her dream might not be so easily realised.
My Own 1000 Square Metres deals with the question of cultural identity in a globalised world and the impossibility of regaining a lost sense of home.

Born 1968 in Iran, Atousa Bandeh Ghiasabadi has worked since 2004 as a member of the "Dutch Visual Arts Foundation's" advisory committee for incentive grants and artist residency. She initially studied astronomical physics in Tehran and Groningen (Netherlands). This was followed by a B.A. in painting at the "Minerva Art Academy". She continued studying with video and film at the "Amsterdam Sandberg Institute". Her photos and video installations have featured at exhibitions in the Netherlands and the USA.
