In Junkanoo Talk, Rhea Storr dissects the colour codes, rhythms and body language of the folkloric Junkanoo, a carnival of the Bahamas. To the traditional beats of Bahamian Rake 'n' Scrape music which is produced only on the body, she assembles a hypnotic sequence of still and moving images as well as fragmented quotations from James Baldwin and the Bahamian minister of tourism. How can cultural identity be translated? Who has the right to speak about whom? And how can opposition be formulated with images, language and the body?
