Pipilotti Rist’s body is the canvas in this surreal montage. The menstruation blood of the artist, red nail varnish, precious stones, bodies hovering in space. All this to the cheerful beat of Sophisticated Boom Boom's ”Yeah Yeah Yeah“. Woman as a beautiful but alien being? Or, as the Swiss Büro für Videokunstangelegenheiten [Office for Video Art Affairs] puts it: the video for the party for the first menstruation.

The work of Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist includes video installations, experimental films, environments, objects, computer art and digital photo montages. Rist studied Applied, Illustration and Photo Graphics at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and Audiovisual Communication (Video) at the School of Design in Basel. From 1988 to 1994 Rist was a member of the music and performance group Les Reines Prochaines, with whom she made several records. In 1997, she won the Premio 2000 at the Venice Biennale. In 2002, she was guest professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.
