Award Ceremony 2010

Over the last twenty years, women have increasingly come to occupy a good number of creative and responsible posts in all fields of film production. However, the old rule of thumb still applies: the higher the budget and the higher the financial risk associated with the production the less frequently you will see a woman in the Director's Chair.

It is for this reason that the International Dortmund | Cologne Women's Film Festival runs different competitions to highlight the work of women film directors and women directors of photography.

On an alternating biennial basis, then, the International Debut Fiction Feature Film Competition is held in Cologne for younger talented filmmakers whereas the International Feature Film Competition takes place in Dortmund for women film directors who can look back on a longer period of creativity.

Both competitions, the International Debut Fiction Feature Film Competition (Cologne) and the International Feature Film Competition for Women Directors (Dortmund) are rounded off with a special Audience Prize.
