Panorama literally means "round view" and that is what our Panorama section does – provide a round-up of what's happening in the world of film. The latest work from over 20 countries offering unusual perspectives, individual styles and experimental narrative forms.
The largest section at the festival, Panorama aims to show a selection of the best productions of the last two years. In addition to young women directors, proudly presenting their first films at the festival, we also meet old acquaintances such as Andrea Arnold. What impressed us during the previews was all the weird and prickly characters on screen and the remarkable skills of the actresses. Not only that: the women directors often develop their own highly individual aesthetics – surreal and fanatical elements juxtaposed with a documentary-type approach. The interplay with images is versatile and intriguing.
Panorama is highly committed to the documentary format. As viewers, we get a glimpse into realities that might, as a rule, remain sealed off. Whether grand-scale political issues or radical personal stories, there is always a need to capture and recreate the bare essence of life. Short films thus reproduce the large in a smaller format as they move, surprise and confuse us while entertaining us in brief and to the point.
The full-length feature films shown in the desired! section are part of the pool from which the
Audience Award worth €1,000 EUR is chosen.
